### Passing other USB devices to VMs
Any USB device plugged into the R730xd can be passed through to a VM using
the same method. Two ways to do it:
**Method A — By Vendor/Device ID (recommended)**
Ties the passthrough to the specific device model, not the physical port.
The device appears in the VM regardless of which USB port it's plugged into.
1. Find the device's IDs on the Proxmox host:
```bash
lsusb
# Example output:
# Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0781:5583 SanDisk Corp. Ultra Fit
# ^^^^ ^^^^
# VID PID
```
2. In the VM's **Hardware** tab → **Add** → **USB Device**
3. Select **Use USB Vendor/Device ID**, enter the Vendor ID and Device ID
4. Click **Add**
**Method B — By USB port (use when you have multiple identical devices)**
Ties the passthrough to a specific physical port on the server.
1. In the VM's **Hardware** tab → **Add** → **USB Device**
2. Select **Use USB Port**
3. Pick the port from the dropdown (e.g. `USB Port 2`)
4. Click **Add** — the device plugged into that port is always passed through
**Via CLI instead of the web UI:**
```bash
# By vendor/device ID:
qm set <vmid> -usb0 host=<vendorid>:<deviceid>
# Example:
qm set 101 -usb0 host=0781:5583
# By port:
qm set <vmid> -usb0 host=2-1 # bus-port notation from lsusb -t
```
**Notes:**
- The device must be physically plugged in before starting the VM, or it
won't appear (same rule as the Coral)
- Each USB slot in the VM config is `usb0`, `usb1`, `usb2` etc. — increment
for each additional device
- To see what's currently passed through: `grep usb /etc/pve/qemu-server/<vmid>.conf`
- To remove a device: `qm set <vmid> -delete usb0`

### Step 11.6 — Add raw data drives to VM 100 via CLI
The web UI does not support raw block device passthrough cleanly — use the
